A Note From Pastor Tom
It is an Exciting Time
With the looks of our
narthex and sanctuary, you would think something is happening at
Community Church. It is! Hallelujah!
We have a team of young
parents and other visionary and helpful people who are bringing
energy and excitement to this week’s Vacation Bible School. I thank
them, and I hope that each of you worshiping today will support them
and pray for them and for the children and families who will be a
part of “Adventure of The Treasure Seekers.” I thank God for
Community Church and your support of our children, youth, and
families.
We also have some ASP Treasure Seekers headed to a materially
impoverished part of the Appalachians in Tennessee. They/we will be
sharing the treasure of Christ’s love and discovering the treasure
of those they will help as we are doing anything from building
outhouses to structural work on dilapidated homes to doing roofing,
siding, and sheet-rocking.
I talk with some pastors who are sometimes frustrated by some of
their parishioners grumbling and getting caught up in pettiness. I
share with them words about a wonderful congregation where
excitement and commitment to the real ministries of Jesus Christ
abound. I tell them about a congregation that is in ministry to and
with people of all ages who are in need. I tell them about our
Sunday School; VBS; ASP; Hurricane VIM Team; Shepherd’s Nook;
Sarah’s Pantry; emergency assistance; Little Lambs; Good Grief
Group; Bible Studies like Disciple and New Beginnings; variety in
worship that is enriched by awesome chancel choir, handbells and
children’s choir and even a band and drama team and hi tech
PowerPoint and Sound Team; a Witness Team; and the list goes on and
on. I tell them about a parking lot with cars in it almost every day
and every evening of the year. Isn’t it exciting to be about the
ministries of Jesus Christ and to be a part of a congregation that
is in ministry with people of all ages? Isn’t it exciting to see and
experience what God is doing through so many of you this week with
VBS and ASP?
I thank God for your smiles, your warm caring ways, your commitment
to be a part of what God is doing through God’s people here at
Community Church. May this be an exciting and fulfilling week for
you. I will see you next week at our annual picnic.
Shalom to you and yours,
Tom McKelvey
