Who We Are!
Mission
Statement of the
Community Church at Ocean Pines
We are an intentionally
diverse, ecumenical and inclusive fellowship of the United
Methodist Church Striving to grow as a caring family united by
the transforming love of Jesus Christ, And reaching out
evangelically to the needs of people and creation in our
community, nation and world.
Some Underlying Principles - Theological:
-
The saving, life-changing,
and renewing love of Jesus Christ is the center of our life as
individuals disciples of Jesus and congregationally as a part of
the Body of Christ.
We are United Methodists
that are intentionally diverse, seeking to include persons from
various denominations and congregational backgrounds as well as
striving to reach across age, gender, racial, cultural and class
barriers to be genuinely inclusive—a congregation intent on
welcoming all persons into this fellowship with Jesus Christ and
to be a meaningful part of our faith community.
We are evangelical reaching
out to share Jesus Christ with others and inviting, welcoming
and including persons who do not know and have not experienced
the love of Christ, non-churched persons who are seeking God,
and those who have dropped out of the church.
-
We are a nurturing
congregation working to meet one another's spiritual, physical
and social needs through our Worship, Sunday School, Bible
Studies, Support and Prayer Groups, Fellowship Groups and
Mission and Ministry Teams.
-
We are social activists in
the name of Christ, reaching out to in ministry with the
materially poor and powerless and to address and challenge the
social injustices and wrongs of our day and world.
-
We are a missional
congregation, striving through our programs and ministries and
through the use of our facilities to serve our local communities
and beyond to the world.
-
We are a connectional
congregation that is part of the United Methodist Church's
Northern Worcester Mission Area Ministry, Salisbury District and
Peninsula-Delaware Conference, Philadelphia Episcopal Area, and
the global United Methodist Church; and we are eager to
participate in more and more ecumenical and interfaith
relationships and co-operative ministries.
Some Underlying Principles -
Organizational:
-
We are a permission giving rather than controlling church that
encourages new ideas, fosters new ministries, and welcomes the
insights and involvement of all.
-
As a growing congregation, we believe that due process and the
involvement of the appropriate committees in planning,
decision-making, and implementing is vital. We strive to build
shared vision and consensus whenever possible.
-
We strive to minimize organizational and committee meeting time
to free and encourage more involvement in the living and doing
of our faith individually and through our fellowship and support
groups and our ministry teams. One of the primary means for
doing this is to have all of our organizational meetings at our
One Meeting Night a Month that occurs on the second Tuesday of
each month at 7 p.m.
-
We work to have persons serve on only one committee at a time so
as to share leadership with the greatest number of persons. This
is especially true for administrative committees with the
exceptions that committee chairpersons are members of the Church
Council. Participation on additional fellowship and support
groups and ministry teams is encouraged.
-
We are committed to openness and to renewal through the ongoing
change of church leadership to include newer members, through a
class system of membership on our committees and the continual
generation of new fellowship and support groups and ministry
teams.
-
We are committed to variety in worship with 3 different styles
of worship in our 3 Sunday morning worship services: informal,
contemporary-multi-sensory, and traditional.
-
As a growing congregation we are committed more and more to
small groups, encouraging members and constituents to be
involved in at least one fellowship or support group and/or one
ministry team.
-
We are committed to multifunctional facilities with shared use
of our facilities, so that there is maximum use of our
facilities for congregational ministries and to serve our local
communities. ®Cross
